PALMYRA TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Two Youngstown University students from FreeTown, Sierra Leone, were killed Friday evening in a single-vehicle crash on IR-76.

The crash happened around 6:35 p.m. near mile marker 50.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 2003 Honda According carrying four people from YSU was heading eastbound when it went off the side of the road. The car then traveled across the center median and back across the eastbound lanes where it exited the road and struck several trees and flipped over.

The driver, Muctar B. Kamara, and a passenger, Nekian F. Sesay, died from injuries sustained in the crash, authorities said. They were not wearing seatbelts when the crash occurred.

The other two passengers sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

OSHP said a preliminary investigation indicates that speed or distracted driving may have played a role in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
