A 29-year-old man is dead after crashing head-on with a tractor-trailer early Saturday morning, according to Streetsboro police.
Around 2:30 a.m., Streetsboro police, fire and EMS personnel responded to the 10300 block of State Route 43 after receiving a call from the 55-year-old truck driver, who said he had been involved in a head-on crash, police said.
Evidence indicated that a 29-year-old man from Kent, driving a Nissan Altima southbound on SR 43, traveled left of center, colliding head-on with the tractor-trailer in a 50 mph zone, police said.
The truck driver reported that the engine compartment caught fire, but it was put out shortly after authorities arrived, police said.
The 29-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and police said his vehicle suffered "catastrophic damage."
Police said the truck driver was shaken up but suffered no injuries. The tractor-trailer had considerable damage.
Part of SR 43 was closed while the Summit Metro Crash team completed its initial investigation and was reopened around 7:40 a.m., police said.
The crash remains under investigation, and the 29-year-old's name is being withheld pending notification of family.
