RAVENNA TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A 35-year-old man was killed in a car crash on State Route 14 in Ravenna Township, located in Portage County, Wednesday.
Troopers from the Ravenna Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded at approximately 8:25 a.m. to State Route 14 at milepost 7.
A preliminary investigation indicated a semi-tractor-trailer traveling eastbound was legally stopped at Lake Rockwell Road, waiting to turn east.
A 2019 Chrysler 300, driven by an 81-year-old man of Twinsburg, was traveling southeast on State Route 14, approaching Lake Rockwell Road when he drove left of center into oncoming traffic to avoid striking the tractor-trailer.
When the 81-year-old man went left of center, he struck a 2007 Ford Focus driven by Zachary P. Cochran, 35, of Wellsville, Ohio.
Cochran was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 81-year-old driver was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
Troopers said impairment does not appear to be a factor.
