SHALERSVILLE TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A mother who was allegedly behind the wheel in a crash that happened earlier this month in Shalersville Township that claimed the life of her two daughters and another girl has been charged in connection with their deaths.
According to Portage County Municipal Court records, the mother, Julianne M. Shead, 41, of Ravenna, is charged by criminal complaint with one count of aggravated vehicular homicide, a first-degree felony.
The crash happened on Dec. 13 in the 8100 block of Peck Road in Shalersville Township.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, when troopers arrived, they found a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado off the east side of the road with severe damage after it struck a tree.
There were eight occupants in the Silverado at the time of the crash, troopers said. Six of the eight people inside the vehicle were ejected from the impact.
“Driver impairment and safety belts not being worn are also believed to be contributing factors to the severity of the crash,” troopers said.
Marlana Mullin, 22, Christine Shead, 12, and Evey Montecalvo, 12, died as a result of the crash while the other five were transported to nearby hospitals from the scene with serious injuries, troopers said.
Julianne Shead is the mother of Marlana Mullin and Christine Shead, OSHP stated.
She has an arraignment scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
