PORTAGE COUNTY, Ohio — The Portage County sheriff’s deputy who was set on fire by a man during an attempt to serve felony warrants has been released from the hospital.

Sergeant Jim Acklin was released from the hospital days after Jay Edward Brannon, 45, threw a container of flammable liquid on him, then ignited the liquid.

Sergeant Acklin suffered second and third-degree burns on his hands, arms and legs, according to Sheriff Dave Doak.

A GoFundMe account for Sgt. Atkin has raised more than $5,000 for him.
