Ravenna police now investigating teen's 'accidental' shooting death as homicide

RAVENNA, Ohio — The death of a 17-year-old boy who called authorities and reported that he had shot himself in the chest is being investigated as a homicide, according to Ravenna police.

Dominic Diax-Francis, of Akron, called police around 12:44 a.m. Saturday and said he had accidentally shot himself in the chest, police said.

The teenager was given first aid instructions until authorities arrived. He was then treated on scene by EMS and taken to a nearby hospital where he later died from his injuries, police said.

With the information gathered from interviews and evidence collected, the police department began investigating the incident as a homicide.

The Summit County Medical Examiner is completing an autopsy, but the results are not yet available.
