NEW FRANKLIN, Ohio — New Franklin Fire Chief Steven Leslie is mourning the recent death of his wife, Therese, who died Saturday from complications with COVID-19, the City of New Franklin, located in Summit County, said in a news release.
After a two week battle with the virus, Therese, 57, died Saturday morning with her husband by her side.
According to the city, Therese was a “pillar of strength in support of her husband Steven as he tirelessly led the city’s response to COVID-19 as coordinator of the city’s emergency operation plans.”
“We are rallied around our Chief right now, and we know he appreciates everyone respecting the family’s privacy as they grieve,” said Assistant Fire Chief Tim Young, who reached out to Leslie Sunday, offering support and any help during this time.
Therese spent years working as a registered nurse in the critical care units at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital caring for critically ill patients.
“It is tragic that the pandemic would claim another victim, especially one so close to our valiant frontline leader,” stated New Franklin Mayor Paul Adamson.
In addition to her husband and the entire City of New Franklin family, Therese leaves two children, two stepchildren and a host of family and friends. “Our hearts and prayers are with New Franklin Fire Chief Steven Leslie and his family at this most difficult time.”
Chief Leslie has asked for privacy and time to grieve with his family during this difficult time.
