Posted

A Stow man was sentenced to life in prison on Friday for killing his mother with a machete while she was in bed in her home last October.

Jason K. Reeves, 22, pleaded guilty to murder and tampering with evidence. He also pleaded guilty to an assault charge stemming from an incident in jail where he assaulted a peace officer, authorities said.

On Oct. 28, 2017, the Stow Police Department received a 911 call from Reeves, who said he found his  56-year-old mother, Susan E. Reeves dead at her apartment in the 2800 block of Graham Road. Authorities located the victim in bed with multiple stab wounds.

Reeves told officers on the phone that he went to his mother's apartment after family members weren't able to get in touch with her when she didn't show up at a relative's home, police said.

When authorities arrived at the residence they met with Reeves, his friend and the victim's ex-husband. Police detained Reeves for questioning but he was later released. He later turned himself in and was subsequently charged with murder.

Reeves will be eligible for parole after serving 15 years.
