LIMA, Ohio — The body of an autistic boy who was reported missing in Lima early Sunday morning was recovered from a body of water Sunday afternoon, according to the Allen County Sheriff’s Office.

8-year-old Matthew Converse had last been seen around 12 a.m. Sunday, according to the Lima Police Department.

Police had informed the public that Matthew had autism and was drawn to water, trains and parks.

Matthew was found in a body of water not far from his home around 3:34 p.m., deputies said.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene, according to deputies.

Authorities are investigating the incident.

Matthew’s death comes less than two weeks after a 3-year-old girl with autism died after wandering away from home and drowning in a pool in Strongsville.
