CLEVELAND — American Red Cross volunteers from northern Ohio are on their way to assist several disasters around the country, including the storms aimed at the Gulf coast, the wildfires in California and the derecho that hit the Midwest.
The local volunteers were deployed to California where three major collections of fires are threatening tens of thousands of homes in the San Francisco Bay Area and central California and have claimed the lives of five people.
Five volunteers are providing relief to residents in Iowa where a powerful derecho with winds reaching 115 mph caused extensive damage. Seven other volunteers were assigned to assist with any relief efforts needed from tropical storms Marco and Laura.
The American Red Cross is looking for additional volunteers and licensed health care professionals to help those in need. Those who are in good health, are willing to receive free training, and are able to deploy for up to two weeks can register by clicking here.
