NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio — Healthcare workers across Northeast Ohio are putting in overtime to tackle the coronavrius outbreak. While they work to keep the community safe and healthy, a bagel sandwich company in North Olmsted is working to keep those workers fed.
Cocky's Bagels, located on Brookpark Ext., is donating 20 sandwiches to a hospital unit for every 60 they sell to customers.
"We don't know how to make these masks, we don't know how.. we don't know how to do a lot of other things but we do know how to make bagel sandwiches so let's find a way to give back," said Natalie Bata, the co-owner of shop.
The shop began spreading the word using social media and customers were quick to back the deal.
"Bless the owners for doing something like that. That's really cool," said Mark Wingenfeld. "Very proud to be a Clevelander for sure."
Cocky's Bagels began delivering the sandwiches over the weekend. Already, they've dropped off meals at various units within the Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals.
"We are just trying to stay positive and I think through this we are able to," Bata said. "There's something about giving back that fills your heart a little. Right now our hearts a little sunken and our stomachs are hurting."
Bata said they are now opening the deliveries up to anyone who would like to help. If you want to sponsor a food drop-off, you can email Bata at cockysbagels@gmail.com or call (440) 454-0675.
