CLEVELAND — Fifth Third Bank announced that it will be giving a special payment for up to $1,000 to employees providing essential banking services to customers during the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.

The special payments will be given to customer service and other employees who work on-site. It will be awarded in $500 installments in April and May, the bank said.

“Many of our banking center, operations and call center employees are coming to work while facing challenges related to childcare, transportation or general concern for their family’s well-being,” said Greg D. Carmichael, chairman, president and CEO of Fifth Third Bancorp. “Our employees are making a real difference for our customers as we navigate this pandemic. We need to do the same for our employees and want to recognize how appreciative we are of their extraordinary service.”

Fifth Third Bank previously enacted modified banking services in order to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, including closing banking lobbies to the public, requiring an appointment for in-person banking, and moving many employees into a work-from-home role, according to the bank.

The bank said it has created additional benefits for its employees to help them through the pandemic.
