COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services announced Saturday that it’s planning to provide up to $25 million in federal CARES Act grants to nonprofit organizations that serve low-income and at-risk Ohioans.

Organizations that receive the grants will be able to apply the money to their unemployment debt or use it to bolster their workforce by rehiring staff that they may have had to lay off, ODJFS said.

Applications for the grants will be accepted until Nov. 27.

The grants are part of more than $410.5 million in CARES Act funding developed by the state to assist small businesses, restaurants and bars, hospitals, higher education, arts, nonprofits and low-income Ohioans impacted financially by the COVID-19 pandemic.
