State agents cite 3 Northeast Ohio establishments for COVID-19 health order violations

CLEVELAND — The Ohio Investigative Unit cited seven Ohio establishments for COVID-19 health order violations, including three in Northeast Ohio.

OIU agents and Cleveland police officers entered The Ivy on West 6th Street in Cleveland around 10:20 p.m. and observed “egregious violations” of Ohio Department of Health orders throughout the bar.

Agents and officers observed guests congregated together and social distancing was not being observed. Every bar stool was occupied and numerous guests were lined up behind them, attempting to order drinks and watching the Cleveland Browns game while not social distancing. Very few guests were seen wearing masks while walking around the establishment and no efforts were made by staff to maintain compliance, OIU said.

The Ivy was issued administrative citations for improper conduct - disorderly activity and after hours sales.

On the same street, OIU agents and Cleveland police officers entered Rumor after observing continued alcohol sales after the state’s curfew. Around 10:40 p.m., agents and officers observed numerous bar staff continuing to pour and serve liquor and guests were walking around the bar while consuming drinks. Guests were also observed congregating and not following social distancing guidelines, OIU said.

The bar was issued a citation for improper conduct - disorderly activity and after hours sales and was also issued a civil summons for violations of Cleveland Department of Public Health orders.

In Garfield Heights, OIU agents observed guests consuming alcoholic beverages just before midnight. The establishment was issued an administrative citations for after hours consumption.

Outside of Northeast Ohio, two establishments in Bowling Green were issued citations for violating health orders.

OIU agents visited Brathaus and observed congregated guests and bar staff not enforcing social distancing. The bar was cited for improper conduct - disorderly conduct.

Agents also visited City Tap/ The Attic and observed guests drinking beer after 11 p.m. The bar was issued a citation for after hours consumption.

Redneck Willy’s in Weston, Ohio was cited for after-hours consumption after agents observed several guests in the bar consuming alcohol after 11 p.m.

In Athens, agents entered Pigskin Bar around 11:20 p.m. and observed the on-duty bartender serve a guest and kept the other behind the bar to drink for themselves. Another guest was sitting at the bar and agents observed the two guests and the bartender consume their alcoholic beverages after the state's curfew.

The bar was issued an administrative citation for after hours consumption and insanitary conditions.

All of the establishments will have their cases heard before the Ohio Liquor Control Commission and face potential penalties, including fines and/or the suspension or revocation of their liquor permits.
