COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Health reported 8,604 new COVID-19 cases in the state today, bringing the total number of cases to 371,908.
While yesterday's record-high daily case number was artificially inflated because two labs had not gotten test results into the system over the weekend, Gov. Mike DeWine said today's daily case number, "we think, is fairly close to where it is." However, DeWine said, "We still have a backlog. We think about 6,000 cases which need to be cleared at some point. So today's data may be a little higher than that. But again, this is a high number."
The number of new cases today is higher than the rolling 21-day average of daily cases, which is 6,941. These numbers include both cases confirmed by a viral test and cases that meet the CDC's definition of probable. There have been 351,304 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date, which account for 94% of total cases.
There were 1,951 new cases reported in Cuyahoga County today, but that number may be skewed as zero cases were reported in Cuyahoga County on Monday.
There have now been 6,118 coronavirus-related deaths across the state; 98 new deaths were reported today, higher than the 21-day average of 35. This was the highest amount of deaths in the last 21-days.
The ODH reported 364 new hospitalizations today, with 29 ICU admissions; both were above the 21-day average.
As of today, 236,618 Ohioans are presumed recovered from the disease, according to the ODH.
There were 53,132 tests done on Nov. 22, the latest day this data from the ODH was available. Of those tests, 13.6% were positive, compared to the rolling 7-day average positivity rate, which is 13.5%. Click here for details on where to get a COVID-19 test in your area.
The median age of patients is 42 with the age range for infected patients from younger than 1 year old to 109 years old.
