There are now 40,848 COVID-19 cases in Ohio, 2,554 deaths

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Health reported 424 new cases of novel coronavirus Saturday afternoon, which is lower than the 21-day average of 450.

Ohio now has a total of 40,848 reported cases of COVID-19.

Additionally, 46 new deaths were reported Saturday. That number is higher than the 21-day average of 28.

Saturday, 50 new hospitalizations were reported which is less than the the 21-day trend of 68 cases. ICU admissions dropped with 9 admissions reported Saturday. The 21-day trend sits at 15 admissions.

New cases in Cuyahoga County saw a drop Saturday with 32 cases reported versus Friday's 55 new cases.

The Cleveland Department of Public Health was notified of seven new confirmed COVID-19 test results in residents of the city, bringing the total to 1,810 confirmed cases in Cleveland and 71 fatalities. The new confirmed cases include males and females whose ages range from under 19 years old to in their 80s. One more probable case was reported Saturday, bringing the total number of probable cases to 462.

The age range of Ohioans who have or have had coronavirus are between the ages of less than one to 109 years old. The median age of patients sits at 49 years old. Fifteen percent of the state’s total cases are health care workers, according to ODH.

It should be noted that while day to day case numbers may fluctuate up and down, state health officials said that cases will continue a gradual rise as more testing becomes available.

A total of 535,943 people have been tested for COVID-19 out of the state's population of more than 11.7 million.
