An Akron man will spend the next four years in prison in connection with the fatal stabbing of his 78-year-old mother last year.

Michael Gleisinger, 49, previously pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and to provide for a functionally impaired person. According to the prosecutor's office, Gleisinger was the caregiver for his mother, who suffered from Alzheimer's disease.

On May 16, 2017, Gleisinger was charged after police responded to his residence and found his mother with stab wounds to the chest. She was taken to a nearby hospital but later died from her injuries.

Authorities said Gleisinger has mental health issues and recently spent time in the Northcoast Behavioral Healthcare System.
