Authorities are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for a fatal fire that broke out at a Richmond Heights apartment complex in September, which has been ruled an arson.

The fire happened on the afternoon of Sep. 21 at the Loganberry Ridge Apartments in the 26000 block of Whiteway Drive.

The fire started inside of an elevator car that closed before bystanders could put the fire out. The elevator opened on the third floor and the fire spread, which later caused the death of a man who was living there, authorities said.

Several people were trapped inside their apartments and had to be rescued by the Richmond Heights Fire Department. Six people were transported to the hospital after sustaining injuries caused by the fire, according to authorities.

The building had severe damage on the third floor, and several residents were displaced from their units, authorities said.
