Suspects accused of shoplifting, striking N. Olmsted officer taken into custody, official says

NORTH OLMSTED. OHIO — Two suspects wanted in connection with a shoplifting incident at the Great Northern Mall and a pursuit that injured a North Olmsted officer have been taken into custody, officials confirmed.

Jamal Samhan and Kristalyn Marcum were arrested in Cleveland Monday, according to North Olmsted police.

Samhan and Marcum were both charged in Rocky River Muncipal Court with felonious assault for the incident last Thursday, according to court records.

On Thursday, a woman was caught on camera shoplifting from Dillard’s at Great Northern Mall in North Olmsted. Her getaway driver struck a North Olmsted officer and fled the scene in a gray Kia Sportage, according to police. The officer was transported to a nearby hospital and treated for injuries.

The man who drove the getaway car was seen shoplifting at Kohl’s in Parma Saturday evening, according to police.

Officers spotted the Kia on West 130th Street and initiated a pursuit.

Police followed the vehicle into Cleveland but when the driver became reckless, officers called off the pursuit to avoid putting the public in danger.

The pursuit lasted around seven minutes, according to police.

On Monday, a representative with North Olmsted police dispatch confirmed that two suspects were taken into custody in Cleveland and brought to the North Olmsted police department.
