A church located in a former flea market building is helping recovering addicts work together for the end goal of staying clean and sober.

Leaders at Movement Church in Akron said they have stepped in to work alongside judges. Celebrate Recovery is a 12-step program that assists in addiction abuse recovery.

Dozens gather every Tuesday night, at 6:30 to pray, and encourage one another to stay clean. Tugg Massa with Akron Say No to Dope said judges appreciate the program.

"They just want you to do any kind of 12-step meeting. They can’t really say anything that has to do with God,” said Massa." “Take it all in You have to submit to God.

Massa said the Christ-centered program has worked for addicts.

"They're not using drugs, they're getting their kids back,” said Massa.

"I sat on my bed for two weeks and cried out to God, U.S. Marshals came to my door, and best thing that happened: I went to prison for four years,” said Jeff Jones, who is a recovering addict. "I got my two children back, I'm a single dad."

Jones said he’s been clean for six years.

Movement Church will hold a Narcan training course Jan. 23, at 5 p.m. The church is located at 333 Manchester Road, in Akron.
