Cleveland police searching for missing 86-year-old man

CLEVELAND — Cleveland police are searching for a missing 86-year-old man.

Joe Phelps was reported missing Friday by his daughter and a social worker who said he had seen or heard from since May or June.

Police checked the home of the man in the 10900 block of Massie Avenue but got no response. The social worker told police that they had tried to contact Phelps’ son on the phone, who said he stayed with his father, but the son became irate.

Phelps’ daughter told police the last time she saw her father was in June or July of 2020, according to police.

Neighbors in the area told police they had seen Phelps on Wednesday, Jan. 6.

Police later spoke with Phelps' son who said they were at the grocery store together and were headed back home but never arrived.

Phelps is described as standing 5 feet, four inches tall and weighing 140 pounds with gray hair and brown eyes, Police said Phelps wears glasses.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to call police.
