COLUMBUS — During Tuesday afternoon's coronavirus briefing, Dr. Amy Acton said the CDC announced new COVID-19 symptoms.

The new symptoms include:

  • Chills
  • Shaking
  • Muscle pain
  • Sore Throat
  • Loss of taste and smell

Acton said people are still getting a cough, fever or shortness or breath, but they are also seeing the new symptoms.

Symptoms may appear 2 to 14 days after exposure to the virus, according to the CDC.

"So there are a lot of folks who get COVID they don’t actually have a fever, or maybe have a fever much later and the onset of illness, chills and shaking, even without fever has been a symptom of muscle pain, headache, sore throat, and you’ve probably been hearing about the loss of taste and smell," Acton said.

Acton said immunocompromised residents are at risk to get the virus, including those with obesity.

"I do want to highlight the at risk groups that the governor mentioned heart conditions lung conditions, hypertension, diabetes, liver and kidney disease, if you’ve had any kind of immunocompromised or you’re on cancer treatment that can be a risk," Acton said.

According to the CDC, anyone who exhibits the following emergency warning signs associated with COVID-19 should seek medical attention immediately:

  • Trouble breathing
  • Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
  • New confusion or inability to arouse
  • Bluish lips or face
