CLEVELAND — The Cleveland State women's basketball coach is recovering after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

Chris Kielsmeier was one of the first cases in the city.

"I multiple times said I didn't want to die," Kielsmeier said. "Really on day three, four, five, I was feeling much better. Day seven and eight it kind of turned, and by day nine, 10, I was coughing up blood."

While he's getting closer to getting back to 100%, he says he still has days where it's a struggle.

"These last couple of days have probably been more of a struggle than what the previous week was. So, it just continues to be a fight," Kielsmeier said.

Kielsmeier said he's not trying to scare people, but wants to keep them informed about what it's really like to have the virus.

"What I tell people is, you have to take this serious. You have to listen to the experts and do what is being asked of you," Kielsmeier said. "I had some of the worst aches and pains I think you can ever imagine going through. And a week after that I was fighting for my life."
