Jan. 31: Ohio reports 3,011 new COVID-19 cases, 54 new deaths, 35,114 new vaccinations

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Health reported 3,011 new COVID-19 cases in the state today, bringing the total number of cases to 895,792.

Key Metrics

The number of new cases today is lower than the rolling 21-day average of daily cases, which is 5,654. These numbers include both cases confirmed by a viral test and cases that meet the CDC's definition of probable. There have been 780,982 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date, which account for 87% of total cases.

There were 290 new cases reported in Cuyahoga County today.

There have now been 11,175 coronavirus-related deaths across the state; 54 new deaths were reported today, lower than the 21-day average of 74.

As of today, 779,888 Ohioans are presumed recovered from the disease, according to the ODH.

The median age of patients is 42 with the age range for infected patients from younger than 1 year old to 111 years old.

Hospitalizations

The ODH reported 80 new hospitalizations today, with eight ICU admissions, both of which were lower than the 21-day average. There are currently 2,441 COVID-19 patients in Ohio's hospitals, and 631 COVID-19 patients in the ICU.

Non-COVID patients are currently occupying 57% of the state's hospital beds, according to ODH. COVID-positive patients account for 9%, leaving 34% of beds currently available. COVID patients make up 13% of the state's ICU beds, non-COVID patients are occupying 56% of ICU beds, and 30% of ICU beds are currently open.

Testing

There were 40,911 tests done on Jan. 29, the latest day this data from the ODH was available. Of those tests, 7.2% were positive, compared to the rolling 7-day average positivity rate, which is 8%. Click here for details on where to get a COVID-19 test in your area.

Vaccinations

To date, the COVID-19 vaccine has been started in 823,839 people in Ohio, which is 7.05% of the state's population. The vaccine has been started in 35,114 people in the last 24 hours.

The state has not yet released data on how many vaccinations have been completed with a second dose.
