Akron police execute search warrants in connection to fatal fire

AKRON, Ohio - Akron police executed search warrants Thursday afternoon in connection with a fatal fire that killed seven people earlier this week.

Authorities searched two homes on Hillcrest Street, just around the corner from the house that was destroyed Monday, according to Akron police. 

News 5 saw investigators carrying boxes and gas cans from the homes.

Crews responded to the corner of Hite and Fultz streets the day after Mother's Day where they found a home engulfed in flames.

The fire claimed the lives of seven people — two adults and five children.

The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office said that all seven victims died from smoke inhalation.

Dennis Huggins, 35, and Angela Boggs, 38, were both positively identified by the medical examiner Wednesday.

The remaining five victims will be identified through DNA testing but the family identified those victims to News 5 as:

  • Cameron Huggins, 1 years old
  • Alivia Huggins, 3 years old
  • Kylle Huggins, 5 years old
  • Daisia Huggins, 6 years old
  • Jered Boggs, 14 years old

A person of interest was questioned in the case and is being held on an unrelated parole violation. That man has not been named as a suspect and has not been charged. 

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
