Jan. 11: Ohio reports 7,892 new COVID-19 cases, 75 new deaths, 8,367 new vaccinations

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Health reported 7,892 new COVID-19 cases in the state today, bringing the total number of cases to 784,957.

Key Metrics

The number of new cases today is higher than the rolling 21-day average of daily cases, which is 7,410. These numbers include both cases confirmed by a viral test and cases that meet the CDC's definition of probable. There have been 696,826 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date, which account for 88% of total cases.

There were 872 new cases reported in Cuyahoga County today. Cleveland reported 236 new cases and fourth deaths.

There have now been 9,702 coronavirus-related deaths across the state; 75 new deaths were reported today, equal to the 21-day average.

As of today, 639,080 Ohioans are presumed recovered from the disease, according to the ODH.

The median age of patients is 43 with the age range for infected patients from younger than 1 year old to 111 years old.

Hospitalizations

The ODH reported 219 new hospitalizations today, with 28 ICU admissions. There are currently 4,056 COVID-19 patients in Ohio's hospitals and 971 COVID-19 patients in the ICU.

Non-COVID patients are currently occupying 55% of the state's hospital beds, according to ODH. COVID-positive patients account for 14%, leaving 29% of beds currently available. COVID patients make up 19% of the state's ICU beds, non-COVID patients are occupying 54% of ICU beds, and 25% of ICU beds are currently open.

Testing

There were 38,556 tests done on Jan. 9, 2021, the latest day this data from the ODH was available. Of those tests, 12.4% percent were positive, compared to the rolling 7-day average positivity rate, which is 14%. Click here for details on where to get a COVID-19 test in your area.

Vaccinations

To date, the COVID-19 vaccine has been started in 304,976 people in Ohio, which is 2.61% of the state's population. The vaccine has been started in 8,367 people in the last 24 hours.

The vaccine has yet to be completed in any Ohio residents, as the second dose must be administered three or four weeks after the first dose.
