COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Health reported 7,654 new COVID-19 cases in the state today, bringing the total number of cases to 807,293.
Key Metrics
The number of new cases today is higher than the rolling 21-day average of daily cases, which is 7,316. These numbers include both cases confirmed by a viral test and cases that meet the CDC's definition of probable. There have been 714,168 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date, which account for 88% of total cases.
There were 628 new cases reported in Cuyahoga County today.
There have now been 9,990 coronavirus-related deaths across the state; 109 new deaths were reported today, higher than the 21-day average of 73.
As of today, 663,856 Ohioans are presumed recovered from the disease, according to the ODH.
The median age of patients is 43 with the age range for infected patients from younger than 1 year old to 111 years old.
Hospitalizations
The ODH reported 340 new hospitalizations today, with 37 ICU admissions, both of which were above the 21-day average. There are currently 3,789 COVID-19 patients in Ohio's hospitals, and 952 COVID-19 patients in the ICU.
Non-COVID patients are currently occupying 60% of the state's hospital beds, according to ODH. COVID-positive patients account for 14%, leaving 27% of beds currently available. COVID patients make up 20% of the state's ICU beds, non-COVID patients are occupying 60% of ICU beds, and 23% of ICU beds are currently open.
Testing
There were 52,948 tests done on Jan. 14, the latest day this data from the ODH was available. Of those tests, 9.9% were positive, compared to the rolling 7-day average positivity rate, which is 13%. Click here for details on where to get a COVID-19 test in your area.
Vaccinations
To date, the COVID-19 vaccine has been started in 361,063 people in Ohio, which is 3.09% of the state's population. The vaccine has been started in 22,875 people in the last 24 hours.
