Jan. 24: Ohio reports 4,481 new COVID-19 cases, 31 new deaths, 32,951 new vaccinations

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Health reported 4,481 new COVID-19 cases in the state today, bringing the total number of cases to 864,322.

Key Metrics

The number of new cases today is lower than the rolling 21-day average of daily cases, which is 6,802. These numbers include both cases confirmed by a viral test and cases that meet the CDC's definition of probable. There have been 757,622 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date, which account for 88% of total cases.

There were 495 new cases reported in Cuyahoga County today.

There have now been 10,711 coronavirus-related deaths across the state; 31 new deaths were reported today, lower than the 21-day average of 78.

As of today, 731,088 Ohioans are presumed recovered from the disease, according to the ODH.

The median age of patients is 42 with the age range for infected patients from younger than 1 year old to 111 years old.

Hospitalizations

The ODH reported 98 new hospitalizations today, with 14 ICU admissions, both of which were lower than the 21-day average. There are currently 2,993 COVID-19 patients in Ohio's hospitals, and 764 COVID-19 patients in the ICU.

Non-COVID patients are currently occupying 58% of the state's hospital beds, according to ODH. COVID-positive patients account for 11%, leaving 31% of beds currently available. COVID patients make up 16% of the state's ICU beds, non-COVID patients are occupying 56% of ICU beds, and 28% of ICU beds are currently open.

Testing

There were 39,073 tests done on Jan. 22, the latest day this data from the ODH was available. Of those tests, 9.1% were positive, compared to the rolling 7-day average positivity rate, which is 9%. Click here for details on where to get a COVID-19 test in your area.

Vaccinations

To date, the COVID-19 vaccine has been started in 607,893 people in Ohio, which is 5.2% of the state's population. The vaccine has been started in 32,951 people in the last 24 hours.
