COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Health reported 4,262 new COVID-19 cases in the state today, bringing the total number of cases to 872,918.
Key Metrics
The number of new cases today is lower than the rolling 21-day average of daily cases, which is 6,567. These numbers include both cases confirmed by a viral test and cases that meet the CDC's definition of probable. There have been 763,650 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date, which account for 87% of total cases.
There were 373 new cases reported in Cuyahoga County today. Cleveland reported 72 new cases and one death.
There have now been 10,856 coronavirus-related deaths across the state; 88 new deaths were reported today, higher than the 21-day average of 77.
As of today, 748,132 Ohioans are presumed recovered from the disease, according to the ODH.
The median age of patients is 42 with the age range for infected patients from younger than 1 year old to 111 years old.
Hospitalizations
The ODH reported 295 new hospitalizations today, with 40 ICU admissions, both of which were higher than the 21-day average. There are currently 2,964 COVID-19 patients in Ohio's hospitals, and 741 COVID-19 patients in the ICU.
Non-COVID patients are currently occupying 61% of the state's hospital beds, according to ODH. COVID-positive patients account for 11%, leaving 28% of beds currently available. COVID patients make up 15% of the state's ICU beds, non-COVID patients are occupying 59% of ICU beds, and 26% of ICU beds are currently open.
Testing
There were 21,701 tests done on Jan. 24, the latest day this data from the ODH was available. Of those tests, 10.4% were positive, compared to the rolling 7-day average positivity rate, which is 9%. Click here for details on where to get a COVID-19 test in your area.
Vaccinations
To date, the COVID-19 vaccine has been started in 656,747 people in Ohio, which is 5.62% of the state's population. The vaccine has been started in 29,768 people in the last 24 hours.
The state has not yet released data on how many vaccinations have been completed with a second dose.
