CLEVELAND — Starting today, University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center will allow expectant mothers to have two adult visitors with them during labor.

Expectant mothers can have a partner and a doula if they wish in the delivery room.

Each visitor must wear a mask at all times, including in the patient's room. The visitor should remain in the patient’s room throughout the visitation period, except for brief periods to go to the cafeteria or the restroom.

If a visitor leaves the room, the visitor is expected to perform hand hygiene, physical distancing and washing hands before re-entering a patient’s room.

If the visitor leaves the hospital property, they will be re-screened.

The previous policy only allowed expecting mothers to have only one visitor, which meant choosing between their partner and their doula.
