AKRON, Ohio — The Ohio Liquor Control Commission conducted more administrative hearings for establishments cited for violating the state’s COVID-19 health orders, including Upper Deck on Portage Lakes and two Cleveland establishments.

The Portage Lakes bar had drawn the attention of health officials in May, June, and July after receiving more complaints about health violations than any other business in the county, but in April the establishment was cited for selling alcoholic beverages exceeding the limitation for the amount of liquor allowed in the drink.

During the hearings last week, Upper Deck was found to be in violation of that citation and was issued a five-day suspension of its liquor license beginning on Oct. 26 at 12 p.m. The bar was given the option to pay a $1,000 fine in lieu of the suspension.

Upper Deck also had its case heard for a citation it received in August after agents visited Upper Deck and observed a lack of social distancing with numerous guests congregating in groups.

The Commission found the bar to be in violation of that citation as well and was issued an eight-day suspension of its liquor license. Upper Deck was given the option to pay a $2,400 fine in lieu of the second penalty.

Anatomy, a nightclub in Cleveland, also had its case heard before the Commission.

On Aug. 6, agents observed the club allowing guests to “engage in disorderly activities” and noted it did not have its liquor permit on display. The club was found in violation of the second citation and issued a five-day suspension of its liquor license or a $500 fine instead.

Club Paradis in Cleveland was cited in Julyon back-to-back days for having over 150 people in a confined area and no social distancing measures for having customers dancing too close together in a small area the following day.

The gentleman’s club was found guilty of the first violation and issued to serve a to serve a 10-day suspension beginning Nov. 15. It was also found guilty of violating the second violation and issued to serve a 20-day suspension of its liquor license beginning Oct. 26 at 12 p.m.
