COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Health reported 1,837 new COVID-19 cases in the state today, bringing the total number of cases to 183,624, as the number of new cases remains on an upswing in the state.

The number of new cases today is over 300 higher than the rolling 21-day average of daily cases, which is 1,515. These numbers include both cases confirmed by a viral test and cases that meet the CDC's definition of probable. There have been 172,997 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date, which account for 94% of total cases.

The recent rise in cases prompted the governor to visit Cleveland on Monday to urge all Ohioans to wear masks and socially distance. “We can keep this virus down, but we all have to pull together,” he told reporters while speaking at Burke Lakefront Airport.

There were 133 new cases reported in Cuyahoga County today. Cleveland reported 49 new cases over the weekend, bringing their total to 5,898.

There have now been 5,075 coronavirus-related deaths across the state, with eight new deaths reported Monday, which is half of the 21-day average of 16.

The ODH reported 111 new hospitalizations today, above the 21-day average of 89, and 14 ICU admissions, the same as the current 21-day average.

As of today, 151,037 Ohioans are presumed recovered from the disease, according to the ODH.

There were 39,431 tests done on Oct. 17, the latest day this data from the ODH was available. Of those tests, 4.9% were positive, compared to the rolling 7-day average positivity rate, which is 4.8%. Click here for details on where to get a COVID-19 test in your area.
