Ohio reports 2-day total of COVID-19 data, with 11,018 new cases reported, 20 new deaths

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Health reported a two-day total of data reported both on Christmas Day and on Saturday. In that two-day total, 11,018 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the state, bringing the total number of cases to 664,668.

The number of new cases today is higher than the rolling 21-day average of daily cases, which is 9,862. These numbers include both cases confirmed by a viral test and cases that meet the CDC's definition of probable. There have been 600,330 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date, which account for 90% of total cases.

There were 1,269 new cases reported in Cuyahoga County in the two-day total.

There have now been 8,476 coronavirus-related deaths across the state; 20 new deaths were reported in the two-day total, lower than the 21-day average of 77.

The ODH reported 168 new hospitalizations in the two-day total, with 14 ICU admissions. There are currently 4,298 COVID-19 patients in Ohio's hospitals, and 694 COVID-19 patients in the ICU.

Non-COVID patients are currently occupying 44.86% of the state's hospital beds, according to ODH. COVID-positive patients account for 15.96%, leaving 39.18% of beds currently available. COVID patients make up 22.75% of the state's ICU beds, non-COVID patients are occupying 48.24% of ICU beds, and 29.01% of ICU beds are currently open.

As of today, 510,332 Ohioans are presumed recovered from the disease, according to the ODH.

There were 60,338 tests done on Dec. 23, the latest day this data from the ODH was available. Of those tests, 12% were positive, compared to the rolling 7-day average positivity rate, which is 13.2%. Click here for details on where to get a COVID-19 test in your area.

The median age of patients is 43 with the age range for infected patients from younger than 1 year old to 109 years old.
