COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Health reported 8,071 new COVID-19 cases in the state today, bringing the total number of cases to 282,528. It's the highest daily total of new cases since the pandemic began.
One month ago on Oct. 13, the ODH reported 1,447 cases. That number has steadily and rapidly rose.
The number of new cases today is higher than the rolling 21-day average of daily cases, which is 4,266. These numbers include both cases confirmed by a viral test and cases that meet the CDC's definition of probable. There have been 267,338 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date, which account for 95% of total cases.
There were 711 new cases reported in Cuyahoga County today. There were 158 new COVID-19 cases reported in Cleveland Friday, bringing the total in the city to 7,837.
There have now been 5,700 coronavirus-related deaths across the state; 42 new deaths were reported today, higher than the 21-day average of 25.
The ODH reported 298 new hospitalizations today, with 21 ICU admissions.
As of today, 197,674 Ohioans are presumed recovered from the disease, according to the ODH.
There were 62,408 tests done on Wednesday, the latest day this data from the ODH was available. Of those tests, 12.9% were positive, compared to the rolling 7-day average positivity rate, which is 11.2%. Click here for details on where to get a COVID-19 test in your area.
The median age of patients is 42 with the age range for infected patients from younger than 1 year old to 109 years old.
