Ohio reports 8,828 new COVID-19 cases, 95 new coronavirus-related deaths

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Health reported 8,828 new COVID-19 cases in the state today, bringing the total number of cases to 653,650.

The number of new cases today is lower than the rolling 21-day average of daily cases, which is 9,848. These numbers include both cases confirmed by a viral test and cases that meet the CDC's definition of probable. There have been 590,630 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date, which account for 90% of total cases.

There were 899 new cases reported in Cuyahoga County today.

There have now been 8,456 coronavirus-related deaths across the state; 95 new deaths were reported today, higher than the 21-day average of 81.

The ODH reported 320 new hospitalizations today, with 35 ICU admissions. There are currently 4,494 COVID-19 patients in Ohio's hospitals, and 1,124 COVID-19 patients in the ICU.

Non-COVID patients are currently occupying 51.82% of the state's hospital beds, according to ODH. COVID-positive patients account for 16.27%, leaving 31.91% of beds currently available. COVID patients make up 23.27% of the state's ICU beds, non-COVID patients are occupying 53.76% of ICU beds, and 22.98% of ICU beds are currently open.

As of today, 489,808 Ohioans are presumed recovered from the disease, according to the ODH.

There were 54,203 tests done on Tuesday, the latest day this data from the ODH was available. Of those tests, 12.2% percent were positive, compared to the rolling 7-day average positivity rate, which is 13%. Click here for details on where to get a COVID-19 test in your area.

The median age of patients is 43 with the age range for infected patients from younger than 1 year old to 11 years old.

As of Thursday, a total of 25,262 COVID-19 vaccinations have been administered across the state, according to the ODH. That number equals 0.22% of the state's population. On Wednesday, 6,286 vaccinations were administered.
