Over the weekend, outdoor bars and restaurant patios reopened across Ohio -- not always smoothly. Ohio’s big reopening has some restaurant workers understandably nervous as they prepare to serve patrons indoors again this week. Mike DeWine made clear on Monday that economic recovery in Ohio is directly tied to how successful the state is at disrupting the spread of coronavirus by social distancing, a response to reports over the weekend of some bars and restaurants in Ohio not taking measures to separate customers. That is why News 5 is breaking down the paid sick leave available right now to help workers impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. It is called the Families First Coronavirus Response Act and includes both the Emergency Paid Sick Leave Act and the Emergency Family and Medical Leave Expansion Act, and it's available through the end of the year. Ohio Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown had some harsh words for President Trump about his response to the coronavirus pandemic in a one-on-one interview with The Columbus Dispatchover the weekend. Ohio's Republican U.S. Senator, Rob Portman, earlier this month defended the administration's response, saying that the Obama White House would not have been any more prepared. More here.

The Ohio Department of Health attempted to send two shipments of a combined 750 COVID-19 specimen collection kits to Summit County Public Health. On April 29 and May 6, however, the Styrofoam packaging housing the swabs, the media that carries the specimens, and the ice that keeps the container cool, broke open. More here.
